India enjoys an important position in the global pharmaceutical sector, with a niche in both the Indian and world markets with expertise in reverse-engineering new processes for manufacturing drugs at low costs. Branded generics dominate the pharmaceutical market, constituting nearly 70 to 80% of the market. India is the largest provider of generic drugs globally with the Indian generics accounting for 20% of global exports in terms of volume.
